Hallway

From 3 April 2023 we're taking a zero-tolerance approach towards items left out in shared spaces. This means we'll take items away immediately. We'll either dispose of, donate or recycle the items.

We're offering a grace period until 3 April 2023, whilst everyone becomes familiar with these changes. This means if we take an item away before this date, you'll have 14 days to reclaim it, but you'll have to pay a charge. This will no longer be valid after 3 April 2023.

The only item that you can have out is a door mat, but it should be kept in good condition (carpet cuttings don't count).

Items should be kept inside of your home. If you see something left out, report it to us straight away.

Leaving items out in shared spaces is a safety risk.

Why?

  • People can’t get past or trip over objects in the hallway.
  • The objects themselves can catch fire, giving off toxic fumes or spreading the fire and blocking an escape route.
  • Some materials (e.g. certain types of glass) can explode at high temperatures.
  • The Fire Service would struggle to get past obstacles, slowing them down when every second counts.
  • Objects in open spaces could be targeted by arsonists.
Please help us to keep you safe by keeping hallways clear.

In the event of a fire, call emergency services on 999.

Please make sure you and your family (including children) are familiar with your building's fire procedure, so you know what to do in the event of a fire.

Evacuating the building might not be the recommended procedure for your building.

If you need help understanding it, or you're unsure, please contact us.

Each building is different, so it's important to know what advice applies to your block.

Emergencies are rare. But it’s still important to prepare for one, just in case.

If something did happen, you need to act quickly and you don’t want to be trawling Google to find out what to do!

It's important you don't make any changes to your fire door, and any damage is reported to us.

Please make sure you avoid:

  • Drilling or anything that could cause damage.
  • Blocking the door.
  • Amending or removing the door closure/
  • Wedging open (it can only do its job if its closed).

Spot an issue? Contact us.

In order to keep you safe in the event of a fire, it's important to make sure your fire doors:

  • Haven't been altered - this includes any glazes or grilles.
  • Have no gaps around the door frame and have the seals and hinges fitted correctly.
  • Have a door closer that shuts the door.
  • Close correctly around the whole frame.
  • Have no visible damage (either deliberate or from wear and tear) to the door or door closer.

If you have any concerns, please contact us.
